The food in India is unlike anything I have ever had in the United States. Not only is the composition of the food different, but the way in which food is thought of, compared to the US. Throughout history, India used unique blends and significant amounts of spices to aid in it's preservation. It was also learned that the food consumed in India is almost always vegetable based, as eating the meat from cows in taboo. Chicken though is seen on some menus in some restaurants. The food is dressed though to be filling enough to last the few hours until the next meal. The food is extremely spicy as well! There have been few dishes eaten by us that has not had spice. I am lucky though, as I always make my food at home as spicy as possible. Food is eaten with the hands as well, with us needing to ask for forks during our restaurant visits. Food is then added another dimension: touch. Food is always seen, smelt, tasted, and (occasionally) heard. Eating with your hands (although messy!) is an amazing addition to enjoying already amazing food. This was our first breakfast waking up in India! It was composed of a rice cake, made for dipping into the various sauces served alongside it. Both had significant spice to them, which was different, as it was 8:00 AM. The rice cake was served with rice, as well as "medu vada," which is made of rice and green onions.
